At least eight football fans were killed in a stampede outside Cameroon's Yaounde Olembe Stadium on Monday before the 16th Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Cameroon against Comoros.
The video showed a crowd of screaming football fans being crushed at the entrance to the stadium in the capital Yaounde.
Witnesses reported violent incidents outside the stadium as thousands of fans scrambled to get inside to watch the match.
Of the 38 people injured, seven are in critical condition.
One child is among those killed, according to officials quoted by AFP news agency.
The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 people, but because of Covid's restrictions it was not intended to fill more than 80% of the game on Monday.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) said in a statement that it was aware of the incident.
"CAF is currently investigating the situation and trying to get more information on what happened. We are in constant contact with the Cameroonian government and the Internal Organizing Committee," it said.
Following a small turnout in the first round of games at the newly built men's soccer tournament, the Cameroon authorities have opened the stadium doors, organized public transportation and issued free tickets to lure fans.
Cameroon defeated the Comoros Islands by finishing with 10 players 2-1 in the match and reaching the quarter-finals.
